Google’s Android TV UI -Improved or another Hitherto Version?

The Android TV under the shade of internet giant Google has aimed to give its global aspirants the true and evenly live experience on streaming the media content at brilliant graphic details, picture and sound quality. Well it’s the project of Google to revive its long-awaited Smart TV evolution that was suspended some 4 years ago but the Google came back with the intuitive approach to relaunch the project by replacing its name “Google TV” with a fresh one to cast exciting experience for android lovers and users. The talks of Android TV took fire worldwide when its launch program was announced in June 2014’s Google I/O conference.

The Google I/O event marked the return of Android TV, which is designed to allow users a simple UI to search and display content besides also streaming video. The version offers a recommended section while also offering a voice based search interface.Unlike other smart TV manufacturers’ design and build modules, the Android TV will not be a kind of digital or set-top box thing but will come as software embedded in Smart TV’s manufactured by third party original equipment manufacturers OEMs which will help the android powered smart TV to offer many useful features and functions that could make viewing experience, a much exceptional one. Google also intended that its smart TV software would work with different chipset brands and it will be designed in such extent of flexibility that will allow android developers to develop tools using the same android SDKs which they use for smartphones and tablets’ platforms.

The Google wants to take its consumer market to venture what it has to offer in its much acclaimed android TV in terms of controls, features and user interface. The android TV is said to have different nature on how it looks and works though the services are essentially harnessed to consume a version of android over a big TV with a fresher look and new fundamental additions that sew good hopes for making it stand out of the hitherto smart TV devices in the market. On the other side of note, unlike the Google’s TV position back in 2010 has changed drastically now in 2014 where it now dominates both iOS and windows Phone on a worldwide scale.
Well coming to the specific design concepts and user interface UI which the Google’s next android TV will offer comes up with the same array of experience or in other words the term is swung with UP-DOWN-LEFT-RIGHT (UDLR) controls which have generated unwelcomed response from smart TV manufacturers. They have expressed with the notion that in the race of today’s multiple motion gesture and touchable technologies, the old fashioned UDLR control would outdate the functionalities of smart TV software embedded in any Smart TV chipset architecture. It is further stressed that it would be impossible to operate many mobile applications through the traditional up-down-left-right (UDLR) interface, consumers are currently forced to use on billions of TVs around the world. Google, with its fondness for innovation, could have been the first to address this problem, but it still hasn’t lived up to the expectations yet. So where Google has actually missed the corner on Android TV - May be its all about the user interface.

The Android TV software development kit (SDK) manages that all applications must fit in with the age-old UDLR client interface model. There is no capacity to incorporate fine gesture control that makes a smartphone or tablet a pleasure to use. Effectively, Google is asking its development partners to completely rethink their applications and make them work within an unnecessarily constrained user interface model. To look at this another way, Google has removed any incentive for mobile operators to port their apps over to Android TV.

It is surprising to observe that TV manufacturers have started to realize and consider the importance of new control technologies while the companies like Google, which are built with the motto of tech revolution and human inspiring innovation has even lately, failed to apprehend the industry’s major issue. The TV OEM’s are fixated on old UDLR controls and have now anticipated the tech industry that it will hold back the industry and have started to adopt the gesture technology controls. With that scenario, Android TV is unlikely to be any different to the existing smart TV platforms we see today. It will just be presented to seduce the audience with very same content, the different smart TV providers are offering but yeah the only difference it will sound would be that Google will give the access to that very same plethora of media variety environment.
